TEN YEARS OF RETROSPECTIVE PROFILING OF THE ABANDONED FETUSES AND NEWBORNS

Objectives: Despite the problem being present in every corner of our country, research studies are scarce on topic abandonment fetuses or newborns. In this light, seeks to look at prevalence and autopsy profiling into cases newborns/fetuses possible suggestions. Methods: The 10 years prospective study was conducted observe abandoned after taking permission from institutional ethical committee. records all medico-legal autopsies under 317 IPC Government Medical College, Amritsar, January 2014 February 2023, were analyzed. Results: total number IPC. study, 02 (9.1%) females known cases, while among unknown there 06 (27.3%) males 14 (63.6%) female. Most females, 16 (72.7%) 6 males. maximum reported 2019 4 (18.2%), 03 (13.6%) 2016 2021, respectively. most common homicidal deaths followed by natural 5 (22.7%) cause death could not be ascertained 3 (13.7%) cases. Conclusion: Whatever reason motive for newborn fetuses’ abandonment, issue needs urgent attention.
